A husband was forced to transport military materials for Japanese troops and died in the battlefield, his wife, with mixed feeling of sorrow and wrath, heard an old man play the song "River Water" on the street, she was so sad that she was choked with sobs and overwhelmed by grief.

“恩赐的香烟”是指上面印有代表天皇菊花纹标记的香烟,天皇把这种香烟,作为提高士气的奖品。
一次,232连队的中队长,命令6个新兵轮流刺杀一名被俘的抗日战士,并说:“这是为了训练一个合格的军人而进行的教育。”刺杀以后,士兵便可得到天皇恩赐的香烟。
"Bestowed cigarettes" refers to cigarettes printed with the design of chrysanthemum representing Mikado, the emperor regarded such cigarettes as prizes for boosting morale.
Once upon a time, squadron commander of the 232nd Company ordered six new soldiers to bayonet by turn a captured anti-Japanese fighter, saying, "that is an education conducted in order to train a qualified soldier." After killing the fighter, the Japanese soldier could gain the cigarettes bestowed by Mikado.
熊谷清,“中归联”会员,1922年出生于日本北海道,1943年随军入侵中国,为五十九师团部兵军曹,1945年,被苏军俘获,1950年7月由苏联政府移交中国,经过教育改造,对日本侵略中国的罪行深恶痛绝,1956年被免予起诉宽大释放。
归国后,他利用工余时间进行油画创作,他深有感触地说:“我残酷地杀害了中国人民,中国人民对我们不但没有报复,反而给予了人道主义的待遇,使我们这些杀人的鬼子变成新人,我要用画笔宣传中国人民的人道主义待遇和宽大胸怀。”他的作品在日本巡回展出,收到了良好的效果,1987年他把这批作品赠送给中国抚顺战犯管理所。
Kumagai Kiyoshi, member of the "China Returnees Liaison Association", was born in 1922 in Japan"s Hokkaido. In 1943 he followed the army in its invasion of China, became infantry officer of the 59th Division. In 1945 he was captured by the Soviet Army and transferred by the Soviet government to China in July 1950, after undergoing education and transformation, he bitterly hated the crimes of Japan"s aggression against China, he was exempted from prosecution and released with lenience in 1956.
After returning home, he used his spare time to engage in the creation of oil painting, he said with emotion, "I mercilessly killed Chinese people, who, in turn, instead of making reprisals, gave us humanitarian treatment, turning us murderers into new people. I would use my brush to publicize the Chinese people"s humanitarian treatment and their broad-mindedness." Itinerant exhibition of his works was held in Japan, achieving good results. In 1987 he presented this batch of works to China"s Fushun War Criminals Management Center.
